چکیده

Adaptation to extreme desiccation has conferred extraordinary radiation resistance on the bacterium Deinococcus radiodurans. How this organism is able to reconstruct a genome shattered by gamma rays has now been revealed.

Comparative proteomics analysis of a novel g-radiation-resistant bacterium wild-type Bacillus megaterium strain WHO DQ973298 recovering from 5 KGy g-irradiation

In order to examine radiation-induced proteins in an extremely radio-resistant bacterium, it became possibleto perform comparative proteomic analysis on radio-resistance Bacillus megaterium WHO as a wildtypestrain for the first time. Variation in cellular proteins profiles of the Bacillus megaterium WHO after 5KGy γ-irradiation were analyzed by two-dimensional poly acryl amide...

Radiosensitive and mitotic recombination phenotypes of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae dun1 mutant defective in DNA damage-inducible gene expression.

The biological significance of DNA damage-induced gene expression in conferring resistance to DNA-damaging agents is unclear. We investigated the role of DUN1-mediated, DNA damage-inducible gene expression in conferring radiation resistance in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The DUN1 gene was assigned to the RAD3 epistasis group by quantitating the radiation sensitivities of dun1, rad52, rad1, rad9, ...

Disruption of Mouse RAD54 Reduces Ionizing Radiation Resistance and Homologous Recombination

Double-strand DNA break (DSB) repair by homologous recombination occurs through the RAD52 pathway in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Its biological importance is underscored by the conservation of many RAD52 pathway genes, including RAD54, from fungi to humans. We have analyzed the phenotype of mouse RAD54-/- (mRAD54-/-) cells. Consistent with a DSB repair defect, these cells are sensitive to ionizin...

XRCC3 is a promising target to improve the radiotherapy effect of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

Radiotherapy is widely applied for treatment of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). The Rad51-related protein XRCC3 plays roles in the recombinational repair of DNA double-strand breaks to maintain chromosome stability and repair DNA damage. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of XRCC3 on the radiotherapy response of ESCC and the underlying mechanisms of the roles of XRCC3 ...

Stress-induced intrachromosomal recombination in plant somatic cells.

Levels of induced homologous recombination between chromosomal repeats in plant somatic cells were examined. Transgenic plants of Nicotiana tabacum hemi- or homozygous for pairs of deletion derivatives of the neomycin phosphotransferase (nptII) marker gene integrated at a single genomic locus were produced. Homologous recombination within the overlapping parts of the nptII gene restored the fun...
